GOLDTHWAITE (RNS) Services for Mrs. Opal Prachyl, 60, of Goldthwaite who died about 6:05 p.m. Thursday in an automobile accident two miles east of Goldthwaite, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Prachyl was killed when the car she was driving collided with a pickup truck, driven by Gary Holcomb of Goldthwaite. The accident occurred on a wet curve on FM 572.
A passenger in Mrs. Prachyl’s car, Mrs. Letris Duncan, was admitted to the Childress Hospital in Goldthwaite with head injuries. She was reported in fair condition. Another passenger, Mrs. Prachyl’s 10-year-old grandson Donnie Moss, 10, of Spring, was slightly injured but did not require hospitalization.
Holcomb was treated and released from the local hospital.
The Rev. Ramon Sims of Evant and the Rev. Dan Connally, pastor of the Goldthwaite First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Payne Gap Cemetery, east of Goldthwaite.
Born Sept. 28, 1916, in Payne Gap, she married Frank Prachyl June 21, 1939, in Dallas where she lived all of her married life; she moved to Goldthwaite about three years ago. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband of Dallas; a son, Ronney Prachyl of Dallas; a daughter, Lynda DeMoss of Houston; her mother, Mrs. Jessie Duncan of Goldthwaite; two brothers, Troy Duncan of Lometa and Doyle Duncan of Goldthwaite; a sister, Dorothy Elliott of Chelsea, Ala.; and three grandchildren.
Opal’s father is William Joseph Taylor (1889-1917), who is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Her father died at 27 from illness. She married Frank Prachyl (1898-1990) on June 21, 1939, in Dallas, where she lived all of her married life; she moved to Goldthwaite in about 1974. On July 8, 2025, Don DeMoss reported that Opal worked in the insurance business in Dallas.
