From JD Hunt’s autobiography:
On February 9, 1946, I went to Richland Springs, Texas, to a basketball tournament. Star girls were playing the Lometa girls in the finals. Frankie Adams was dating Willie Brown and she was playing for Star. I said, “Frankie, get me a date.” Cleta Black was Willie’s good friend. Frankie and Willie asked Cleta if she would go with me. She said yes and we dated eight months. We got married on October 26, 1946 in Goldthwaite, Texas. On our marriage day, I went over and picked Cleta up at her house. I took her to my house to meet my parents for the first time. Odell and my cousin, Dorothy Duncan, went with us to Bro. Louis Sparkman’s house in Goldthwaite. He lived across the street from where the hospital is now. Frankie and Willie came over also. Bro. Sparkman married us and then Odell drove us to the Saylor Hotel. The next morning, we caught a bus to Brownwood for a 4 day honeymoon. We stayed at the Grande Courts … We didn’t own a car for over a year after we were married. In 1947, we bought a 1935 Chevrolet from Elzy Brown for $100 … When I was a boy, I went to the Baptist Church at Moline, Texas. Cleta went to the Primitive Baptist Church at Mt. Olive, Texas. Moline had a Baptist and a Methodist church. After Cleta and I married, we attended the Baptist church in Star for 11 years. Cleta and I were baptized the same day in Culver Emdy’s dirt tank Southwest of Star. Bro. Ramon Sims was our pastor. J.D. and Juanita Smith were baptized the same day.
Cleta’s parents are Bob and Sudie Huckabee Black. Their children are Ogie Oregon, Lois Louisa, Cleta Cleo and Velda Violet Black. Ogie was born at Pecan Wells, Texas, and married Jim Yeager. She miscarried three babies and they raised a nephew named Joey Harris. They lived on the old Bob Black place at Pecan Wells. Lois was also born at Pecan Wells and married Hershel Williams. Their children are Wanda (married to Don Plagens), Darla (married to Joe Riley), Gary and Bobby (married to Steve Young). Cleta was born November 13, 1927, at Pecan Wells. She married me, J.D. Hunt of Payne Gap, Texas. We had Darrell Wayne (married Melynn Trimmier), Robert (married Linda Brown of Priddy and is now married to Kathy Sanders) and Marvin (married Sherri Hartley). Velda was born at Pecan Wells and married Bill Sanders of Mullin, Texas. Their children are Edward (married Diane Head of Center City) and Glendon (married Laura). Mr. Black’s parents were Jackson and Louisa Helen Arrowood Black. Mrs. Black’s parents were Thomas W. Black, Sr. and Norcessis Oregon Huckabee.

Diane, so glad you visited. I’ve been working on the Carswell family today, particularly Cleo Carswell, my beloved K-2 teacher at Star.
