Mattie was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Duncan (1822–1895) and Mariah [Bullion] Duncan (1833–1877). She was born on April 9, 1862, in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas and passed away on January 19, 1925, in Moline. It appears that her family had moved to the Georgetown, Texas, area by the 1870 census. She married W. (William) H. Hunt (1862-1890) on September 20, 1883, in Williamson County. In both the 1870 and 1880 census, her first name is listed as “Martha.” In the 1900 census, likely living in Moline, she is listed as “Mattie,” and she was living as a widower with her two children, Finis and Thomas. Mattie’s brother was Robert Eli “Bob” Duncan, who was the father of Orb Duncan.
