Bill’s remembrances as published in the Payne/Hunt genealogy compiled by Mary Scroggins:

I remember a rocking chair at the Higgins [place] that Aston and I fussed over and the long plugs of tobacco and the plug cutter that Mr. Higgins used to cut the tobacco.

We often sat in Arthur’s yard and told of younger years. We remember when the country was open-unfenced.Our livestock moved from Williamson County drifted back there. We had to brand the cattle and horses. We often had to go as far as Onion Top Mountain to gather them. The Baugh Ranch was first known as the Ramsey Ranch.

All we children had to help gather the crops. We girls rode horses the same as our brothers. For other recreation, we enjoyed parties and school plays.

I went to Moline School in 1922. I remember Mr. Luther Garrett as being a very strict teacher. Isa Kincheloe, another Moline teacher, was near my age. Isa asked me, “What were your mother and dad doing when you left this morning?” I replied, “They were separating.” (speaking of the milk and cream!). “Who gets the children?” replied Isa.

After Mr. Bud Hunt’s death in 1919, Willie continued to live with her mother in the home. After her marriage in 1925 to Orbie Duncan, they continued to make their home with Mrs. Hunt who passed away in 1934. Both parents are buried in Payne Gap Cemetery.

Willie now lives alone in the house where she was born, just west of Payne Gap Cemetery.

M.E. (Mart) [John Martin Abner “Mart” Hunt (1850-1926)] married Lizzie Hughes [Nancy Elizabeth Hughs (1855-1935)], a sister of Marion Sippo Hughes. Mart and Lizzie Hughes Hunt’s children were Maude (Mathis) [Maude Almer [Hunt] Mathis (1882-1978)], Pearl (Howard) , Maggie (Hunt), Oma (Kimbro), Iva Joe (Wilkey), Silas [Silas Ambris Hunt (1878-1950), died in Georgetown], Plez [Pleas Jefferson (1874-1959), died in Waco], and Manley [E. (1864-1960)].

Mart [buried at Hunt Cemetery,Williamson County, Texas] and Lizzie Hunt [buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Mills County, Texas] are buried in the Payne Gap Cemetery in Mills County, Texas. Mart and Lizzie Hunt lived and owned land joining the W.A. Patterson home place northeast of Moline.
