Funeral services for Odell Hunt, 80, of Sweetwater will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at the Fourth and Elm Church of Christ with Joe Bagby and Jim Wilks officiating.

Burial will be at Payne Gap Cemetery in Mills County near Goldthwaite, under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Payne Gap Cemetery in Mills County near Goldthwaite.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, from 6-7 p.m.

He died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 19, 1926 in Lampasas County and married Beatrice (Bea) Green [on] March 22, 1950 in Canyon. He graduated from Lometa High School in 1943 and was in the Merchant Marines in World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He also served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years as a pole climber, a phone installer and then working on toll. A resident of Sweetwater since 1959, he was active in Sweetwater Summer League Baseball. He was a member of the Downtown Men’s Bible Class. He enjoyed dancing at the senior dances and was an avid Sweetwater Mustang fan.

Survivors include two sons, Al Hunt and wife Karen of Sweetwater and Will Hunt of Lake Whitney; one daughter, Denise Friend of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Eric Friend, Ashley Friend, Shawn Hunt, Christopher Hunt, Allison Hunt, Rachel Hunt and Michael Hunt; one brother, J.D. Hunt and wife Cleta of Star; one half-brother, Roland Sperry of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice (Bea) Hunt on Feb. 22, 1973.

Pallbearers will be Vershel Smith, Bill Stroman, Lewis Williams, Ronald Bewley, Willard McFaul and Herbert Hoover.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Downtown Men’s Bible Class.
