Notes
An only child, Wilba Dean was born in Center City, Texas, on October 31, 1928, to Wilburn Arrowood (1897-1962) and Cleda Mae [Cook] Arrowood (1903-1994). She and her parents lived in a home that was once located near Moline on the east side of FM 572 just north of FM 1047. She attended Payne Gap School starting in 1933 before transferring to Star School and finally graduating there in 1945. Shortly afterward, she and her friend Bobbie Duncan attended Western Union Telegraph School. After graduating, she accepted a position with the company in Odessa, Texas. She met and later married James Colvin Brittingham (1924-2014) on November 18, 1949, in Odessa, where she lived most of her life. The couple had no children. She died on May 31, 2020, at a memory care facility in Odessa from COVID complications.1Acknowledgements to Richard Leach for sharing many important details of Wilba Dean’s life. Richard was her hairdresser for many years in Odessa.
