Notes
Obituary published in the San Angelo Standard-Times, June 18, 2009. page 2:
GOLDTHWAITE – Troy Duncan, (1926-2009), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away after 82 years. Troy left a legacy as a man of great compassion, love, integrity and strength.
Troy was born in Mills County on August 31, 1926, to Thomas Ell and Jesse Hunt Duncan and was the oldest son of the union. A brother Doyle Duncan of Andrews survives him; two sisters Opal Pratchal and Dorothy Elliot are deceased. Dale Duncan, a very special cousin also survives him.
Troy lived on the family ranch until he enlisted in the military during World War II. He served three years sailing on ships and seeing the world during the war. He always had stories to tell his children, grandchildren and friends about his travel during that time. Troy married Mildred Ann Kirby in 1947 in Lometa, and they were blessed with three children, Troy Lynn, Vicki Ann,and Gerald Keith. His wife Ann and son Lynn preceded him in death.
In 1989, Troy married Jacklyn Traylor. After World War II, Troy was employed by Draughn’s Business College in Dallas to recruit high school students. Troy was a rancher, and owned a wholesale fuel business in Lometa, from 1949 until poor health forced him to close the business this year. He served on many boards and committees during his life and was especially proud of being a director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and the Central Texas Area Community Development Review Committee. Troy was a real estate broker as well as a licensed auctioneer and was appointed to the Rules and Regulations Committee for Auctioneers by Governor Ann Richards.
In the 1950’s he served on the draft board along with other residents of Lampasas County. Troy served three terms as Mayor of Lometa and was proud to say the Lometa Regional Park and the renewal of the Lometa City Lake happened during his tenure in office. He also was very involved in the Mohair Council of America and loved raising and selling mohair goats along with other livestock, which he did for many years.
Troy is survived by his wife Jacklyn, two children, Vicki McLean and husband Jimmy and Keith Duncan and wife Kathy. Grandchildren Chad McLean and wife Valerie and son Hunter, Lance Duncan and wife Kyla and daughter Tatum, Dusty Duncan and wife Cindy, Tracey Duncan and Jeffery Duncan. Troy is also survived by three stepchildren, Theresa Walls, Michelle Lightfoot and John Traylor and nine step-grandchildren Jennifer Lightfoot, Christopher Alcorn, Brian Alcorn, Julia Walls, Sarabeth Walls, Jack Henry Wall, Michaela Walls, Angela Traylor and Isabella Traylor.
His grandsons and stepson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Services for Troy will be Saturday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite. Private interment of cremains will follow at a later date.
Memorials may be made to either the Senterfitt Cemetery or the Payne Gap Cemetery.
Troy is buried next to brother, Doyle Duncan.
