Matilda was born to Solomon W. Davis and Aletha [Barnes] Davis on June 5, 1848, in Atlanta, Georgia. She married Gideon Harrison Watson on April 29, 1866, in Crawford, Georgia. By 1880, she and her family were living in Alvarado, Texas, and by 1900, they were living in the Payne Gap area. She and “Gid” had thirteen children. She passed away on April 29, 1931, at her home from paralysis of the throat and other contributing factors according to Dr. Brooking, who at the time practiced in Goldthwaite, Texas. Gideon Watson (1889-1899), her son who died at age ten, is buried near her and her husband.
