Jo was born in Odesaa, Texas, on December 5, 1937, to Hazel [Barton] Sikes (1918-2004) and Gaylord Derwin Sikes (1913-1957).¹More info about Gaylord is in Hazel Sike’s record Sometime in the mid to early 1960s, after graduating from Odessa High School, she moved to Dallas to live in a small apartment behind Opal Pratchyl’s house and to attend electronics school. After graduating, she took a job at Sears, where she worked as a bookkeeper until she retired. She was a lifelong, avid reader, which facilitated her command of trivia. She also developed a deep fondness for Hawaii and traveled there a few times with friends and family. Later in life, she was robbed of her sharp mind and eventually her eyesight from a tumor on her optic nerve. She passed away in a nursing home in Bridgeport, Texas, on November 29, 2002.
