Funeral for Hazel Sikes, 86, of Paradise will be scheduled for a later date. Sikes died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in Bridgeport. Born May 2, 1918, in Goldthwaite to Richard and Josephine (Hunt) Burton, she was a beautician. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord and a daughter, Jo Sikes. She is survived by a daughter, Neva Hetfield; two grandchildren, Angela Quintana and Stacy Kline; three great-grandchildren, Andrea, Sarah and Alex Kline; and three sisters, Vera Hale, Miriam Whipple and Mary Alice Scroggins.
Hazel was married to Gaylord Derwin Sikes (1913-1957), a grocer [from] Odessa. They married on November 17, 1935. He died from a heart attack on February 24, 1957, while on a fishing trip at Lake Walk near Del Rio (Val Verde County, Texas). He is buried at the Odessa Cemetery (Ector County Cemetery), Odessa, Texas.1In a telephone conversation with Neva Sikes Hetfield on 2025-08-21, Neva shared that Gaylord ran a grocery store with his brother in Odessa called Sikes and Sikes Grocery. Gaylord was the butcher and his brother was the grocer.
Hazel passed away in a nursing home in Bridgeport, Texas, on December 18, 2004.
