Both Gid and his wife, Matilda, were born in Georgia. Gid was born in Macon, Georgia. They were married on April 29, 1866, in Crawford, Georgia. They had a number of children:

Obituary published in The Goldthwaite Eagle, January 21, 1927:

GID WATSON DEAD

(Uncle) Gid Watson died Friday, January 7th, and his remains were laid to rest in the Pane Gap cemetery, Saturday morning, January 8th. Mr. Watson, who was 86 years of age last April, had been bedfast for about four or five months and his death was not unexpected. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Marion West, Primitive Baptist minister, of which church Mr. Watson was a member.

Mr. Watson was a pioneer citizen on this section, having lived in the county since 1889. He was married to Miss Matilda Davis on April 29, sixty years ago. He leaves a wife and six girls and three boys. Mrs. J.W. Gilstrap of Fresno, California, Mrs. J.O. Rouse of Fresno, Mrs. D.A. Berry of Lawn, Texas, Mrs. R.E. Ross of this city, Mrs. Walter Berry of the county, Miss Lizzie Watson, and F.H. Watson, Eldorado, Texas, O.E. Watson, Dodsonville, Texas, W.S. Watson, Nolanville, Texas. All were here at the funeral but the two sisters in California

The Eagle joins the host of friends of the Watson and Ross families in offering them the greatest measure of symphony in this sad hour.
