Jessie was born in Gatesville, Texas, on May 25, 1888, to William Thomas Wilkey and Martha Helen [Honeycutt] Wilkey. She married Walter Lee Mathis (1886-1961) in 1904. The couple had one daughter, Virginia [Mathis] Jarvis (1905-1970), who was born in Mills County, Texas. The family lived in Gatesville, Texas. Jessie died in Star, Texas, on December 31, 1907, at age 19. She is buried next to her parents in the cemetery.
