Aubrey W. “Pat” Carswell was born on October 27, 1907 at the family home at Moline, Texas, to Walter Byrd Carswell and Carrie Thomas [Carrigan] Carswell. He lived his entire 95 years on this homestead. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher on the land he loved. Throughout his life Pat maintained a gentle spirit, a mischevious twinkle in his eye, and a love for everyone and everything. He was very athletic and enjoyed all sports and was an accomplished domino player. He was a member of the Star United Methodist Church.
Pat left this life on Sunday morning, November 24, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Services were held on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite. Officiating were George Matthews, preacher for Star United Methodist Church, and Terry Jackson, preacher for the Goldthwaite Church of Christ. Burial was at Payne Gap Cemetery at Moline. He was carried to his final resting place in a horse drawn wagon.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Johnny Carswell; a sister, Lora Belle Carswell Godwin; a niece, Sybil Carswell; and a nephew, J. A. Carswell.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cleo Black Carswell; two daughters, Judy Seward and husband, Donald, of Goldthwaite and Patsy Blasdell and husband, Larry, of Ruidoso, New Mexico; four grandsons, Chad Seward and wife, Regina, of Goldthwaite, Dane Seward and wife, Kim, of Cedar Park, Ryan Seward of Azle and fiance, Kristi Phillips of Stephenville, and Shan Seward of San Angelo; five great grandchildren, Allison, Quaid, Trenton, Macy, and Trey.
Other surviving relatives are a sister-in-law, Alma Carswell of Granbury; nieces, Norma Kerr of El Paso and Joyce Jenkins of Tarzana, California; nephews, Jerry Carswell of Katy and James Carswell of Granbury.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Chad, Dane, Ryan, and Shan.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe White, Earl Wayne Reynolds, Dale Duncan, Alvis Lee, James Woodson Clary, Clinton Miles, Pete Harper, Darrell Head, and Max Shepherd.
