John was born in Jacksonville, Mississippi, to Daniel Archibald Campbell (1827-1902) and Sylvia Elizabeth [Parker] Campbell (1838-1915). In 1860, he was living in Sarepta, Mississippi and by 1870 had moved to Dallas, Lafayette County, Mississippi. By 1880, he and his family were living in Coryell County, Texas. He married Millie A. Temple on July 22, 1894, in Lampasas, Texas. He and his family were likely living in Lometa, Texas, by 1910, where he died on March 11, 1929, from paralysis of the heart. Death date on tombstone does not match death date on death certificate.
