What a thrill to discover that Curtis and Michéle Roberts are restoring the Ridge Schoolhouse, located in western Mills County. I knew that the county had auctioned off the building, but I was unaware that the Roberts were the new owners and had taken on such an ambitious rehabilitation. I am so pleased that the Roberts are saving the building and have shared some interesting facts about the school’s history at www.ridgeschoolhouse.com. I consider the Payne Gap Schoolhouse and the Ridge Schoolhouse to be bookends—they anchor the eastern and western parts of the county and both were built in the 1930s.
