Mills County in Wikipedia
In October 2022 while attending the Mills County Historical Commission meeting, I visited the then current Wikipedia article about Mills County, and I was surprised at how anemic it was. Knowing that the county offered many more dimensions—including a rich history detailed in a number of significant books published by the commission—I set to work to improve the article.
The current article, which has grown from about 350 words to over 5,000, not only offers many more facts about our county, its content has now been woven into the fabric of the encyclopedia by providing links out to related articles. Also, Wikipedia statistics show that about 450 other Wikipedia articles link to the county’s article. The ongoing digitization of The Goldthwaite Eagle in the Portal to Texas History has been immensely helpful in supporting the article.1
Please visit the latest version of the article and consider contributing to its improvement. There are a number of areas that need to be edited or expanded. In particular, the section on communities needs attention, and in many cases, separate articles created covering places that have significant published material to reference. You can visit the “talk” page and participate in a forum where problem areas get flagged and discussed.
