Wood, Rock, Wire, Fashion

Jeffrey Lee’s artistic trajectory took off once some prescient advisors at Baylor University recognized that his talent needed cultivation at a specialized art school. His short time at Baylor soon transitioned to studying at Parsons School of Design, where he focused on fashion and graduated in 1991.

Fashion has always informed Jeffrey’s artistic vision, and many of his sculptural works take cues from fashion conventions. His buoy series of sculptures came from finding some old buoys while out antique shopping for his Dallas-based business, Grange Hall. The wire component of these pieces evolved from a series of drawings he completed a number of years ago, which he began to imagine as three dimensional forms melded with the buoys. It’s easy to see the netting as upside down hoop skirts.

With Jeffrey spending more time in Payne Gap, Texas, local rock forms have replaced the buoys and even inspired a different sculptural direction. Wire netting imbues these new works with a deep relevance to ranch history.
